Should the water neck fasteners be painted on my '69 base model?

    Hi all,

The bolt and stud that hold the water neck (a.k.a. thermostat housing) to the intake manifold on my base model '69 are unpainted:

This seems strange to me, as I would think that the water neck would have been attached to the intake manifold and then painted at the same time.

I have the motor apart right now and am repainting the manifold and water neck, so I am wondering if this bolt and stud should be painted as well. Can anyone help?

    Thanks in advance,
    Paul

Both the bolt head and stud should be painted. They were painted when the engine was painted.

By the way, as far as correctness goes, you have bigger problems. Your waterpump and fan clutch are not correct.

In addition, your alternator is not correct for a 1969. 1969's used an SI series, internal regulator type alternator. Your alternator appears to be a DN series alternator last used for 1968. I don't understand how a 1969 could even use such an alternator.

Thanks, Joe! Yeah, the alternator, water pump, and fan clutch shown in that photo have already been discarded. That photo was taken when I bought the car... I have it all torn apart at this point.

      Thanks again as always,
      Paul
