1966 K19 question

Good afternoon,

I am restoring a 66 K19 L36 car and have a question regarding dates of A.I.R components relative to the build date of the car. My car was a June 20 66 build date and the Air injector pump I've tracked down is an October 65 stamping, would this be acceptable for judging purposes if I were to use it? What's an acceptable date range for these components?

The accepted date range under NCRS guidelines is 6 months prior to the car's build date. So, the October, 1965 pump you have found falls out of that range. Presumably, it would incur some sort of judging penalty. However, 1966-67 Corvette AIR pumps are unique to Corvette applications and can be difficult to find. So, assuming this pump you've found is an original Corvette configuration pump, you might want to "hop on it" and just accept the minimal points loss.

Bill Hodel and Cranes Corvettes are two sources for AIR parts. Bill also services AIR parts and can rebuild/restore them. He advertises in the Driveline.

If you have the correct configuration pump there are those individuals out there that can skillfully redate your pump, just a sayin'

I wouldn't go hunting down another pump. Glass date range is one year, and with how few smog cars were built i can tell you the dates are far out there. When i judge smog cars i take that into consideration. If the pump is correct for the car, i would do nothing more than mount it on your car and run with it. ARA

Pumps alone can go for over 1K. The brackets (some) are not that hard to find, but some are. The pulleys can get tough to find as well. I would gather all the pieces you can, even if they are one by one and start putting the system back being complete. ARA

I would agree with Ara and may go beyond. The situation is very similar to the transistor voltage regulator (1116368 Assembly line - 1116378 for service) used with 1965 A/C cars with TI - I have a copy of the handwritten "production card" for the years 1964-69 of around a 1000 units. In 1969 they made ONE - now there's an owner with some "juice" with the General.

K19 was first used in California only cars. Optional in 49 state Federal cars that did not need the system. Per Noland Adams book, 2380 Corvettes had the system. L36 production cars are listed with / without air conditioning and with PG auto trans or manual trans. 440 without AC and N40 Power steering and manual trans. 96 cars with AC , and only 23 with AC and N40. I believe your date code could be acceptable, as the option is so rare.

Thank you James, I believe I'm one of the 440 with N40 and manual. I'm working on tracking down a pump that is a little bit closer currently. Should know soon.

My 67 coupe with L36,C60 and N40 has a smog pump coded 07671P. I think this decodes to March 17 67 shift1 corvette, The car was built in mid April. I think the pump is original but I can't say for sure.
I was a little surprised the dates are so close.

Sounds like your pump could very well be original , I've heard several people give dates around a month or two prior to the cars build. I'm excited about anything built prior to June 20 1966, but within 5-6 months seems ideal. It's going to be an exciting project for sure.

id like to see photos of this, did you have all the K19 equipment when you purchased? Or did you have to track it down like the rest of us?
