The GM #19212299 that John mentioned should be available from GM or ACDelco dealers. It's a re-manufactured piece and VERY expensive compared to the cheap, new aftermarket distributors. Do you suppose that a $100 aftermarket distributor is going to be as good as an almost $1,000 GM LIST part? I don't. The Optispark is a bitch to replace. I'd only want to do it once. And, if you're paying someone to do the job, you REALLY only want to do it once.In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Re: Left in the dark
I bought a GM! No part number on the cas.ing i question if it is a real GM replacement part, The original part number on my 93 (late build ) is 11079473 . My question would be does all parts have numbers on them? If not that 12 month warranty means nothing on the 13 month! Now if that water pump did not leak thru that small bleed hole i could have gotten more than 24 years on the original opti. So now i am sourcing any info that might extend this repair and with no part number on the replacement i am hesitant to install the GM replacement.- Top

Where do you find this part number on the original Optispark? Photos of the original and GM replacement Optispark would be very helpful. Be sure to include the area where you find the part number on the original.
In any event, I highly doubt that GM would be offering an OEM-quality, remanufactured Optispark that was constructed from an aftermarket core.
Also, there are kits available to convert the 92-94 Optisparks to vacuum extracted ventilation (i.e. similar to the system used on 95-96 Optisparks). These eliminate the problem of liquid intrusion. However, I would assume that the installation of such a kit would probably void the GM warranty on the distributor. In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Re: Left in the dark
I recall pin stamped numbers and dates on the edge of the original optical distributors on my 1995 B-bodies. I may have those around someplace, but the chances of finding them are remote. If they were on the distributors of the B-body LT1s I am sure they were also on the Corvette versions.
I seem to remember that on the opti I removed from my old 94- Top

Re: Left in the dark
The part number is in the five o,clock position on the dog leg side were a attachment point is! This is the die cast base. The box containing the opti says ac delco Detroit Michigan. As far as venting i am going to lock tite the rotor, double the rtv on the circular gasket ,rubber tape the attachment wiring points (two) ,leave the three holes on the six o,clock position open for ventilation, and attach a drain line on the water pump to wick the condensation away from the opti. The opti needs a heater to keep it from sweating inside because of the season changes .A constant temperature would eliminate the heating and cooling of unit.- Top
