So interesting thread on these screws that no one seems to have brought to discussion before that I remember, I would like to ask does the head of screw have a slightly rounded head? and should it be Zinc? OR Blk. Phos.

Ed, "slightly rounded" =s "pan"; "Cad or zinc" =s "some sort of protection other than blk. phos. or chrome".
For the benefit of computer illiterates like myself, are the gold stars in the "code" column a good thing or a bad thing?

Off the top of my head, I think that's an "interior" screw, possibly door panel, kick panel or the console sides of the radio. During the sleeping periods of the World Series tonight, I'll try to remember to get the AIM out. Perhaps someone who has one apart right now will chime in earlier.

Loren - that's what I've got holding the aluminium licence surround bezel to the rear valance - cheers Keith

These are definitely not the screw specified in the AIM. This must be a case of a factory "substitution". That sort of thing would be likely be quite possible for a non-critical application like this.

Keith, a quick search of the AIM leads me to believe that your screw may be #162406, which I CANNOT find in my 1971 Standard Parts Book. It also does not show up in any of the Parts Replacement tracers that I have. But when I Google "GM #162406 screw", one of the entries that shows up is a Dr Rebuild screw kit for the kick panels BUT WITH A WARNING that the screw is not 100% correct. I'm not sure I comprehend the difference as described - but clearly the good Dr has been over this ground.

Loren you're like a detective - I am sure the screws are the ones that go into the carpet / kick panels left hand side drivers and right hand side pass side down in the wheel wells.
                        thanks Keith
