Re: Brake bleeding did not work

I had replaced a front caliper. The one that I could not open the bleeder valve was the left rear caliper top inside. I had assumed, hoped, that by bleeding the top outside bleeder, any air in that caliper would get vented out through that bleeder. I guess it is time to get out the vice grip a force that valve open, hopefully without breaking it off.

open that bleeder and your problem will disappear. It is a must and is trapping air

Success. I could not open inside bleeder valve on left rear caliper, The caliper had quite a bit of age on it so I replaced it and bled the whole system again. There must have been some trapped air in the old caliper as now I have normal brake pedal.
Thanks for all the help and information.

Good job. Lucky you replaced it since the bleeders do snap off and that would not make your day.

Quite an ordeal but one thing is for sure: you have a very safe braking system now!

A comment about the Motive brake bleeder. It is a pain to use with the chain clamps but a large C-Clamp works great. Only one step but tighten firmly.

I tossed the J clips when I got my Motive 12 years ago. I do the same thing- large c clamp- works great.

                  I do the same.

Also, after using the Motive the first time, I called them and asked if it can be used without any brake fluid in the tank or lines. In other words, use the Motive as an air pump to pressurize the MC reservoir. They said that's fine. This keeps the Motive clean and dry, and greatly reduces clean up.
