56 Rear shock access hole covers

Were the 56 rear shock square access covers on when the interior was painted or are they left natural unpainted? Thanks!

I used a piece of "gorilla tape" to seal these holes in my 57.

          David,

AIM Sect J, p3 shows "masking tape" prior to rev date 3/25/57 when the "3740260" seals were added. What is the approx. build date of your car if you don't mind? It appears it had the seals, not tape, correct? If yours are actually tape of some sort, could you elaborate on the description a little please. Trying to clarify what would be correct for my Nov '56 car. Thanks for your help.

The build date on my 56 is August 7, 1956. It now has 50,000 original miles on it and I traced it back to 1958 at Midway Chevrolet in St. Paul, MN. I contacted the owners of Midway Chevrolet; and they did not retain the records for 1958. It had seals on it and not tape. There were several other items, like a 57 radio, that suggests that this car was in the changeover of parts to the 57 models.

              Mark,

Could you provide dimensions of the seals, please, length, width and thickness and type of material? Thanks for your help.

The seals are approximately 3" by 3", thin (but thicker than tar paper), tar paper type of material. Hope that this helps!
