Just looked at a late April 58 and noticed this strange electric fuel pump mounted under the pass. door. It is mounted to the outside of the frame. The gas line goes thru the middle of the pump. Sure looks factory and even has a radio condenser mounted to the unit. The fuel lines have been cut in the front and back and rubber hose spliced in. Is this possible that it is factory or a part ordered from GM and added? Thanks in advance

Re: 1958 rpo 684
Jerry, I doubt if factory.
Is is a fuel pump, or could it be a fuel shutoff solenoid. I once inspected a late '58 and this is what was underneath. I didn't know it at the time, but it's a pump.
Allegedly may have been used on the C1 Sebring and Lemans cars. Bendix. And it appears they still make them.

Re: 1958 rpo 684
2 Bendix fuel pumps and a mechanical pump were installed on 4 '56 Sebring cars. They were attached to 2 small brackets that were welded to the L & R inside frame rails at rear kick up just in front of fuel tank. Bendix pump is designed to push fuel and it was utilized to make sure adequate fuel from 371/2 gal. tank with no baffles reached the mechanical pump. The pump you show is not factory installed.- Top

This one wasn't "factory" either, but some other guys at Chevrolet did it.
