    Randy,
That sounds good. There was a company in Redding Ca or in that area that used to make the units years ago.

Probably going with Bowtie Overdrives in Hesperia. They did the 700R4 for my '62 and it worked out great.

Re: Earlier '66 AC Compressor Questions

        Good Morning All,

Thanks so much for all of your posts! I'm now scouring as deep as possible into the TDB archives to add to this data. And I've found some more stats and will update my listing soon. I've been requesting data for compressor info from the last quarter of '65. I've finalized it as the last 1/3 of the '65 calendar year for the 1966 Corvette production year.

So, anyone out there that has any Frigidaire A6 compressor (Corvette or any Chevrolet car) with casting #6555302 with a Sep (I) '65, Oct (J) '65, Nov (K) '65, or Dec (L) '65 casting date, please respond! Especially if the foil label shows a model #6550133 or #6550113. Provide as much info as possible. Casting #s, foil label info, etc. Photos would be wonderful!

If your Corvette has AC and was built during the last 4 months of '65 and you're having difficulties seeing the info on your compressor, please chime in and we'll talk about it. We'd all like to see what you've got!

I'm really looking forward to your posts! Mike

This one goes out to Harry Sadlock.

Harry, I was just reviewing this entire post for content and I see that you chimed in at about post #30(ish) on pg. 1. Very sorry I missed it. I'm pretty thorough, don't know how I missed you!

Thanks for the info from your '63 stats. You show compressor dates to car build dates with a spread of 1 to 3 months during the '63 production. Interesting! One of the responders to this thread has a compressor casting date right at 2 months prior to the build date of his car. I wonder if I'll find any with a bigger spread?

Once again Harry, sorry I missed you. Mike

              Mike,
Thank the good Lord that you are not one year earlier with the great GM strike that hit the end of 64 for the 65 year models. I had a 3 Month delay on my car because of the strike. Those numbers have to be all over the place!

Re: Earlier '66 AC Compressor Questions

                Good Morning Dom,

I hear you! So glad that my car's build wasn't part of that strike. The more I dig into this, stranger things unfold. Yesterday I found a '67 AC car that has a compressor casting date of Aug '66 with the Frigidaire label build code of Feb '67 and the car's build date of Jun '67! The guy's had the car forever and has never changed the compressor. The Frigidaire label is worn by age and is definitely one used on '67 Vettes.

So, I'm sure my findings will be "all over the place" as you've said. But I strongly feel that I should be able to compile an accurate trend of compressor combinations for the last 1/3 of the '65 calendar year. Just as long as I can get a steady flow of posts from AC car owners. As I've said, I'm enjoying digging into this. Not just for my knowledge but for the benefit of interested fellow members. Time for morning coffee and the continuation of my scour of the TDB archives.

Thank you Dom for all of your thought provoking posts. They have helped keep this thread interesting for all who've read it. My friends in NCRS who have have really enjoyed it.

Thanks to you and all fellow posters who've kept this thing alive. Mike

Re: Earlier '66 AC Compressor Questions

                  Good Morning All,

Late last night I stumbled upon this beautiful shot of the St. Louis 1965 Corvette assembly line. I had a version of this shot already that I've always assumed "all there was" to the closer/cropped photo. Wrong!! This version's resolution is much more defined in sharper color and is in full landscape. It shows vast amounts of detail of how it was "on the line".

Never saw this in Noland Adams Resto Guide or any M.F. Dobbins books. Don't know it's source or who posted it to the TDB. But I'd like to thank you for what is now my favorite Corvette shot of all time. And for those of you who've never seen this full version, I'm "paying it forward".

                  Enjoy, Brother Mike

I'm assuming that young gentleman is probably enjoying retirement somewhere by now.

Nope, working at the job here in Miami. Wife and cars up in Maryland. Big time commute, but it's working. We'll give it a few more years and see what happens.

                      Take care, Mike

Yes, you too can be Captain Kirk in your Corvette. Just loose the luggage rack! Mike

The blue '66 is a St. Louis body. The yellow '65 in an A.O Smith body.

                                Good Morning Everybody,

I've been moving the above request up every so often to keep this thing towards the top. The request specifically asks for AC compressor info for the last 1/3 of the '65 calendar year to compile 1966 end-of-year stats.

But it omits my earlier request for any Midyear owner of an AC car to please chime in and tell us what compressor type/info that you've got! I'm putting more info together if I can get it.

Thanks for viewing and have a great day, Mike
