    67 327 Starter Rebuild

    HI:

Who does rebuilds of small block starters (67-327-350HP)....to Hi-torque specs?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Converting a standard torque starter to high torque is a bit more involved than a standard rebuild but still pretty easy. The difference is that you need to change the armature and field coil as well as the normally replaced parts (e.g. brushes, bearings, etc.). However, be advised that the installation of the high torque field coil assembly requires that a new hole be drilled in the starter frame (i.e. the steel cylinder with the numbers on it). This will slightly change the external configuration of the starter and may result in a judging penalty if that's an issue for you.

The armature and field coil you need are GM-discontinued but available in the aftermarket. You need an armature equivalent to GM #1940624 and a field coil assembly equivalent to GM #1877306 or 10470770.

Another option for you is to simply buy a high torque starter for your application. A high quality rebuild is available under GM #10496870, aka Delco #323-364. The numbers won't be right (unless you get real lucky) but you'll have an as-new, high torque starter without having to modify the frame of your original starter. You could then save the original for judging.

        Thanks guys:

I appreciate the info.... should have mentioned this is not for me....its for another guy....we don't let him have wrenches, pliers screw-drivers etc..... and he is not located near me or I would do it myself!!! I did them for both my 66 BB and 67 SB cars with no issues....

        Thanks again!!
