    66 Dash Harness

    Yet another wiring question

Can anyone tell me where the wire labeled in the pic bellow (????? A/C Heater SW. ) goes . I have everything else in that picture figured out but that wire .

Is it yet another "not used with A/C cars" wire ?

    Thanks ,

    Jim

    Re: 66 Dash Harness

I believe that that plug will go directly to the blower switch on a non a/c car. If car has a/c the separate wiring that goes through the firewall for the a/c components has a plug that fits the blower switch with a jumper wire on it that this plug is plugged into,so that plug is used in both non a/c and a/c cars.

Yes I just checked AIM UPC 12 Wiring Diagram. It shows a #14 Brn going directly to the Heater Switch.

        Both Richards ,

        Thanks for those replies .

So that wire plugs into the pigtail of the blower switch on A/C Cars . As with most things, a good explanation helps it makes sense now !

What threw me is I have it coming out the right of the console and it needs to be way left . That and the fact that those excellent pictures I have , and have followed religiously , were a little vague on that wire as well .

Moving forward until the next dilemma !

Well I just went to attach and it turns out that you can't attach the two as currently configured .

Turns out the guy who assembled the harness reversed the female adapter on the pigtail. That is to say they inserted the wire in from the adapter side and left me to install the other wire and it's male attachment in from the smaller wire side !!!!

Note pics below and reversed adapter on bottom arrow . worse yet is I have no idea how to remove that type of adapter from the wire. It is not like the male adapters .

Easy enough to cut and reinstall a new adapter if it wasn't up under the dash !!!

If it's not one thing it's another !!!

Evening Jim....You are absolutely correct that plug is backwards. The metal connector soldered to the wire inside the plastic plug has a tang that holds it in place. Try and slide a very tiny screwdriver or ice pick in from the end the wire is not coming out from, and as you have the driver inserted try and pull the connector out gently while pulling on the wire. You may have to try both sides until you release the tang. Good luck, sometimes things just never go right. Ric

Jim, That wire plugs directly into the Heater switch above the radio. NOT into another wire connector. It is the Power feed for your Blower motor speeds.

                Re: 66 Dash Harness

Here is some info from a document that Tim Welch (another forum) and I put together on dash wiring for mid-years a while back. It shows the connection of that single brown wire to the rear of the blower motor switch.

That pic in the OP's original post is from the dash harness that I installed in our '65 AC car. The connections are different as the 65 harness had blower motor connections coming from the engine harness and some of the dash harness connectors were just not used (taped off and stowed).

                Hope this helps.

                  Joe ,

A/C cars have an additional Harness, and as you can see from the picture , it wants the brown power wire to plug into the pigtail provided , as the heater switch terminal is already taken by the brown wire on the A/C harness .

                  Dave ,

That was your picture ? Then that one , and the others I used on the" left" and " Right" side as well as the cluster , in color , all labeled and arrowed , were fantastic !!! In fact you can see a few of them in the picture . It turned what seemed like an impossible task into a manageable, step by step procedure . Thanks a ton for those !!!!

I forgot.... this is a AC car.

Yes whoever assembled that plug installed the terminal at the wrong end. No wonder it was confusing.

                        Hi Jim.
The photos you have were from when I rewired our 65 AC/PG/PS/PW coupe. being "anal" I did not want to screw up the installation since this was the first car I ever rewired front to rear. So, I labeled everything in sight and followed the wiring diagrams to ID connectors, etc. That brown wire with the ???? on it was one that gave me some pause.

I'm glad those pictures were of use to you.

I have attached the full document that contains the Tim Welsh info from his 66. We made a heroic effort to try to document the "non-cluster" dash wiring for the mid-years. We also produced a document for the "cluster side of the harness". That one is too large to post here.

Dave, You guys did a great job on that.

Jim, Page 16 of the PDF shows that connector.

                            Thanks again.

Not to mention frustrating and time consuming.
