Early "57" windshield wiper cable connection

It appears there should be a lower cable connection on the slider that operates the wiper motor. There is a hole in the Plastic Slider but no clip as in the upper cable connection from the foot pump for the Washer. Can anyone shed some light on this issue? I can work the wiper motor with the foot pump but not with the dash knob. Thanks.

Ed I have attached a photo of a 57 wiper motor (5047991) cable hook up.
Does your look like this.

Yes, but still unable to tell how the dash knob cable operates the motor.

Ed when I look at your picture I can't see the small captive floating washer on the lower cable from your dash knob.
Maybe its there and just does not show.
It should be there on the end of the wire cable.

The wiper control cable end goes in the slot of the foot pump cable end, it does not attach to the plastic slide when using a foot pump cable. In the photo it look like the foot pump end is pointed down so you can't attach the wiper control. I can't tell in the photo where do you currently have the wiper control end attached?
