Does anybody have any tips for gluing on the vinyl dash rail cover on a 54 corvette. The door rail covers went on ok but the dash cover looks tricky.

i use contact cement and you will have to follow the directions on the contact cement can in terms of application of glue by gluing both pieces then waiting till its time to apply the vinyl to the fiberglass(cans directions should suggest the time interval). have some rags balled up and handy along with some masking tape to keep the vinyl down against the fiberglass on the concavities on both sides of the speedometer and both sides of the radio speaker. these are the 4 areas where the vinyl tends to pull away from the fiberglass. and also make sure the fiberglass has all its old glue removed. i even rough the fiberglass up with some 220 sandpaper after cleaning the old glue with lacquer thinner. its a pain in the ass job i've done 5 times. if there is a need to do a 6th one, i'll consider farming it out to al knock. mike- Top

To add on to Mike's instructions I would highly recommend the vinyl be heated and warm to the touch before you start the job. I've found it's easier to install the face first and then apply the adhesive to the edges and roll them over and attach to the back. You shouldn't need any tape to hold the vinyl in place if you follow the instructions for the contact cement and allow it to dry on both the vinyl and fiberglass prior to applying the vinyl. What ever you do just make sure to take your time. That's the most important step when applying the vinyl to so many compound curves and angles.
