    C2 Exhaust Muffler Tip Length

I have a 66 with under car exhaust. It is time to replace the mufflers and need to know how far past the lower panel exhaust bezels the tips should go. I'm concerned about exhaust heat discoloring the underside freshly re-chromed bumpers. The old tips are straight style pipe and I'm wondering if tips that point down at the end help protect the bumper. I know it is not correct and I'm not sure I'd like the look of the down pointing tips so please advise me.

    As always, thanks in advance.

Put a heavy coat of wax on underside of bumper and let flash, but don't buff it off. Buff it off every week or two and replace. Or get some heavy duty shrink wrap. Have used both for years.

I've installed midyear tail pipe extensions with the bottom of the extension 5-1/2" from the valence bezel. I don't know if that is exactly right or not but yes I do get discoloration under the rear bumpers on my 63...

Regular maintaince of the bumper chrome with a good polish should keep the chrome nice. I doubt you will not be keeping an eye on it.

Thanks all for your responses. It seems this is an issue that owners just deal with so, I guess I will too. I've been looking locally for tips that would fit and find the selection very small. You would think these would be easy to find. Barring the usual vendors does anyone have any recommendations I should look into? I've checked the FLAPS, Amazon, and Ebay already. I'm in the Seattle area.

          Thanks again.

And now back to the original question. Do you care about judging points? If so then the question of a part number on the tip is the next thing to determine, ie has or doesn't have. (it may be that just 63 had no part number - I forget so ask around)

From what I've read in the catalogs (LICS, Corvette Central) the 1966 year does not have part numbers on the tips.
