    1967 38866093 L88 Intake???

The L88 was introduced around February, 1967, but I have a friend that found a 3886093 intake with a 12-2-66 date (see attached). However, the casting number is 38866093 not 3886093. Anyone have any comments?

That doesn't appear to be an original cast part number, IMHO. If you look closely, you can see the original 7 digit cast numbers underneath the overlay of new numbers.

            Ed,
Peter shows it to be a January '67 date right next to the picture.

And that's why I initially posted the thread. The date (December 2nd, 1966) is a good indicator that this intake is a pre-production prototype and a mistake (?) was made on the casting number. GM cast prototypes are cast with an O DASH (O-) number but I don't know how Winters handled prototype castings. I was hoping someone with an inside contact to Winters might have an answer. It could be just a simple mistake (probably) and was fixed on the next prototype and production manifolds. Peter shows his manifold as a January, 1967 casting, but he didn't say the day. I'd like to hear from anyone else with a late 1966 or early 1967 3886093 to see what they have.

Several intakes with the extra 6 in the casting number have been found over the decades. Error?

Mike, does this apply to the 3886093 intake or some other?

Could one be turned into the other with the plenum divider removed or were there other differences ?

Plenum divider was factory cut beginning mid? '69. Chevy Power circa 1968? book shows how to do a field modification. There was a problem with fuel distribution

The manifold I show did not appear to be separately milled out. I have seen over stamped 069 (with 093) manifolds hand milled however. I could be foggy on this at this time, however. It is now in my old 1967Corvette serial #3254, an old Briggs Chevrolet stickered coupe, which I sold 2001.
