Mike trying to figure out what is natural and what is painted on the front suspension on a 57.
spindles
knuckles
A arm shafts
3rd arm bracket I see were you said you painted them
Idler arm
drag link
do you cadmium plate the hardware that is visible on the backing plate . Stud with large nut ,bolts that hold the wheel cylinders . nails that hold brake shoes.
Do you put the inspection marks on top of the black paint .- Top

Re: C1 brake hoses 1957
dan: our 1957 vin 4450, which i restored in the late 80's and duntoved at anaheim in '91, 1957 vin 1093 which i restored and duntoved at charlotte in 2010, as well as 1957 vin 5655(which dick robinson restored about 10 years ago) all have black overspray on the parts you mentioned in your post above. vin's 4450 and 1093, the front suspension parts of which i glass beaded, had no inspection paint marks on them. i believe that some 57's had paint markings but am convinced not all had the paint markings. if they had paint markings, then it'd be under the black painted front suspension parts. the only c-1 i've restored, a 61 RPO vet, had paint markings under its original black paint but it wasn't visible till i glass beaded the individual pieces. in this case, the paint markings were directly applied to raw, unpainted suspension parts then blacked out . good luck restoring your 57. regards, mike- Top
