Questions about 283 Engine Code G279 and heads with codes G279 and H39

I am looking to get a period correct engine for my 1960 corvette. I saw one with the engine code G279 and heads with codes G279 and H39 per the add. I looked at several sites and cannot find this type of code? Can anyone help - I am new to this game and just bought a chassis and body and putting it together - my retirement project.

These appear to be casting dates. G 27 9 translates to G=July 27= 27th day of the month, 9= the last digit of the year, in this case 1959. Although this is a date code these casting dates are usually referred to as just that, casting dates.

The head casting dates translate to July 27, 1959 and H 3 9 is August 3, 1959.

Including the exact location of these "codes" in your post would bring greater clarity and thus a more acurate answer.
