Convertible Top Won't Release

Just bought a '98 Pace Car. When I press the rear latch release I can hear the electric mechanism cycle but it doesn't release the top from the deck. I found the wire cable at the rear of the center column but it seems stuck. I pulled on it rather hard but nothing happens.

By question is: where do I start to diagnose and fix the problem?

Button will release deck lid and drop windows. The top is spring loaded
On my '98, I release both top hold downs at upper windshield, then push button. At that point top is lose and can be folded up and the deck lid raised. Then lowered. Be careful and don't get fingers caught in top frame work. Takes a couple of tries after that much easier than C2 or C3. Also will not work with trunk lid open. Last of all keep top up as much as possible while in garage, to keep wrinkles to minimum.

Thanx Carl. I read the owner's manual. That helped a lot. Duh!

I was thinking it operated similar to my '96. Wrong.
