Question on exhaust heat riser valve

    Guys,

I'm trying to fit my exhaust system on my 69 350/350 and the if I install the heat riser valve on the pass side facing to the rear as it appears in my AIM it doesn't clear the starter solenoid shield when I try to open it, which prevents it opening fully. If I rotate it towards the front-outer it fits ok, but again that's not how it seems to appear in my AIM. Anyone have any advice?

New JG reiterates that the weight is forward, and points at the frame rail. It should drop in front of the solenoid.

I had one that was used and the stop was not working. I couldn't get it to work correctly till I purchased a new one. After comparing them side by side it was an easy fix on my old valve. BTW the reproduction I purchased was rough. The stops didn't hold the flapper valve at 90 deg till I ground on the stop a little. The casting was rough. It also when it was closed it had more clearance between the valve and the sides of the casting than the stock one did. I couldn't see where this would affect anything but the open stop position sure could. I no longer purchase any reproduction parts without looking this over closely.
