1962 Battery Retainer J bolt length??

Recently purchased repop J bolts for my 62 as the judging manual says they should be cad plated. Ones I took out were semi gloss black. BUT the ones I took out were about 9 inches long and the repops are only 8 and don't seem long enough to reach the retainer with the spacers in place.... Does anyone know the correct length for the 1962 part #6255817 per the AIM? I am installing a "correct" battery, which I have been told should be 8 and 7/8 inches high. Seems to me the repop J bolts are going to come up short, even given the ears on the battery tray, extending the reach of the j bolt relative to the bottom of the tray. I do have a battery mat in place... is the length of the J bolts so close to the height of the battery than an extra 1/8 or 1/4 inch renders them too short?
    Inquiring minds want to know??
