Re: block stamp is J146
Danny,
My 1967 427/435 K19 (California Smog equipped car) has it's original block cast and assembled in October 1966. The birthday of my car is in May 1967. I have seen another similar October 1966 engine in a May 1967 birthday K19 car.

Re: block stamp is J146
What is the lap time between Block date cast # and the Front pad date # why are the days so far apart, i was told at the factory in 67 the block cast date # would of been stamp and a day later front pad would be stamped and assembled ,- Top

Re: block stamp is J146
Danny,
The only real relevance of the block casting date and the front pad stamp is that the cast date MUST precede the pad stamp date. It is unusual for a block to be cast and then not used for several months but, certainly, not out of the realm of possibility.Leif

Re: block stamp is J146
Danny:
Suggest you get and read the 1967 section of Noland Adam's Book on C2 Restoration. This section includes his survey cars, where SB and BB cars have information on their dated components. The C2 Registry is another source of similar, yet different, information.
Tonawanda BB blocks were cast in batches and then assembled into engines (with front pad stamped at this time) as the need arose. So there can be a bigger gap between engine cast date and engine assembly date for the BB cars than for the SB cars. But this gap is typically 1-2 months. Noland's survey shows this as a function of the car VIN Number. It is good reading and may help you to see when some of the BB engines for cars near your VIN were actually cast and assembled. A K-19 engine may have a larger date gap than for a regular (non-K19) engine.
FWIW.

Re: block stamp is J146
I agree but apparently not that unusual with a JA car. I got my car from the original owner who had parked it in 1970. There is absolutely no question to me as to the originality of the engine.
