    LS5 Dipstick

    https://www.forums.ncrs.org/showthre...&highlight=LS5 Dipstick

This thread from October 2010 talks about the 1970 LS5 dipstick having lines for "FULL" and "ADD" with no other writing on the stick.

I just received my 5th edition Judging Manual where it says ALL 70-72 dipsticks have "O" circles for FULL and ADD marks with writing saying "Use GM 6041-M Quality MS Oil.

I'm confused as to what is a correct dipstick for a 1970 LS5.

    Thanks, Rick

The dipstick on my '70 LS5 has two "O" circles as level indicators with "FULL" or "ADD" written next to each. It does NOT have any oil specifications, nor any other markings or writing.

This dipstick came with the car when purchased in 1990. In my opinion, it's probably the original dipstick but it could be a service replacement.

Can you tell me what color tip on the handle and what month your car was built?
Also is it 24" from top of bell to the add mark?

No plastic tip. I remember a thread talking about why some have no tips- removed, fell off, or never had one? Don't know.

SN 12931; trim tag date is June 22.

Not sure what you mean by "top of bell".

The bell is the section of the dipstick that slides over the tube when installed.
You have the handle. Then the bell. Then the flat dipstick.
If you click on the link in my original post about the 3rd post in that link shows how to measure it

23 7/8" from 'top of the bell' to the 'o' for 'Add'. With 6 quarts of oil it registers 'Full' using a PF25 filter.

The car has AC if that makes a difference.

Let me know what you conclude about your dipstick and mine. Or are you sans dipstick and looking for one?

                I don't have a dipstick yet.
                I'm searching for one.
Thanks for taking the time getting me details on yours.

Anyone else have any info on the 70 LS5 dipsticks?

Not sure if this helps, but this is what my 70 LS5 with AC has. There isn't a plug in the top.

                      It does help.
                      Thanks.

I assume it measures approx. 24" from the top of the bell to the "ADD" Line?
What build number is your car?

This is what the dipstick on my '70 LS5 w/AC car looks like as well. No other markings; no plastic tip.
