65 300 hp valve cover decal

The "Chevrolet 327 Turbo-Fire" valve cover decals for my 300 hp come off almost as soon as I put them on. I think the adhesive is bad. I ordered from two different places with the same result. Has anyone had this problem?

    Steve------

So far, I've never found a reproduction valve cover or air cleaner decal that would remain adhered for more than a very short time. Whatever adhesives are being used are not heat resistant. I just don't know why they can't get this right-----GM did.

      Steve,

I bought my decals (metal/foil) from LIC in June 2014 for flight judging and have had no problems with them staying put. I drove the car 250 miles plus on the road tour to KC and back home in high heat and humidity and they stayed in place, still are in place to this day and the car is driven everywhere it goes. I did clean the valve cover surfaces with 3M General Purpose Weatherstrip Adhesive Remover prior to installing them. I think surface cleanliness is important in getting them to stick.

      Regards,

      James

        James,
I bought mine from LIC in 2017, and cleaned the valve covers the same way you did and they didn't stay on even one day. Got some from Zip and had the same problem. Decals I bought several years ago stayed but not these latest ones bought this year.

Glue it down with contact cement. Apply contact glue it to both surfaces, let tack up and assemble.
Done it will never come off unless you destroy it.

            Thanks Gene, I'll try that.
