Engine Just Rebuild--Should I keep the old Parts?

I had my 1971 LT-1 engine rebuilt. Any reason to keep the old parts--solid lifters, cam, pistons, rods, crankshaft, etc?

    Paul------

The lifters, cam, and pistons don't have much value, especially if there is obvious wear. However, they can provide some "historical perspective" if questions regarding original parts comes up.

As far as rods and crankshaft goes, why did you replace these? If the crankshaft has standard bearing journals, even if slightly worn, they can be reground. While I'm not a big fan of reground crankshaft journals, .010" is really not a big deal and many folks would use such a crank. Similarly, unless damaged, your rods can be easily reconditioned and are quite valuable rods. You could probably sell them for a good price with no trouble, at all.

Paul if you don't throw the stuff away now you will be in 5 years. I just cleaned out piles of old parts that i thought would be useful. But just try and sell the junk.

When I was a fleet maintenance manager I took the philosophy, if it needed replacing, it was worthless junk and scrapped it. If you don't the Law of Available Space will catch up with you real quick

Heres what I would do. chuck (I mean recycle..they do need metal to make new import cars after all) the cam an lifters , and list the crank and rods on eBay or craigslist a couple weeks. If they don't sell, scrap them too.
