    63 Glove Box Door

Has anyone had a 63 glove box cover succesfully restore? Mine has surface cracks in the clear plastic that are only visible from the side. I've found a GM restoration parts door but, while it looks great, the hing mechanism is note even close to what was used on the original.

I believe you can purchase just the door's plastic front.
Then install it into your existing door.
Their also seems to be several companies that will install the door into your existing frame for you.
Paragon may be one of them. The don't specifically mention the g/b door but my bet is they recondition them.
Look under the vintage tab on their web site. Likely many others vendor also perform this service.
This is on my list of stuff to do as my 1963 door is cracked at the bottom.
If you have an original door with only minor cracks you might put it on eBay or sell it to someone with a survivor car.
Yours seems to have survived in better condition than most the doors I have seen.

My guess is there is little one can do to repair the original door.
Look at the damaged area with a magnifier, you may find the cracks are in the plastic not on it.
If they are on the surface it may be possible to buff them out.
I would check out the products they use on the removable top's rear window.
    Also aircraft windshield's surface prep.

Once what you decide to do and how you get there any feedback would be appreciated.

Sorry, but I can't understand your question. Here's a few pictures of 63 glove box doors that I have removed from the back and replaced them with the Trim Parts fronts. The ones I used are perfect as they are from the original molds. The only difference is the type of plastic used as the Trim Parts door front is very resistant to cracking. The early 63 glove box doors had a problem with cracking and GM came out with a metal reinforcement. That's along the bottom of the doors in the hinge area.

I also don't know how you would ever restore one of those door fronts...but as noted; its not that big of a deal to put a repro (or original) front on an existing rear section...

The reinforcing bar is a must to avoid cracking...

These are both 63 locks, ensure whatever lock you have will fit in the new door before you start gluing it together.

There are two Trim Parts p/n's, 5200 and 5201. 5200 (the one I have) includes the entire door including the hinge and support wires plus some hardware. The 5201 is the door front only and probably the one I should have bought based on the comments from other owners. Also based on other comments, mine apears to be in better shape than most. There are no actual cracks through the plastic but rather a small pattern of what I would better describe as spider web type imperfections. Fortunately they are only visible from the driver side, but its something you see every time you get into the car.

Are there any "secrets" to separating the front from the back, or is it a matter of gentle prying around the perimeter? Also glue/adhesive suggestions?

There is another method which others have done to remove just the insert (attached). I'm not sure if there is an easier way or not, but thought I would share the find (article from these forums)

Answered my own question by searching a bit more.

That article is 64-67 specific, I think the 63s are a different type of deal..

Another question. Does the flat reinforcement bar go on the inside of the door (visible when door is open), or on the outside on the bottom edge?

My 63 glove box door is in pretty good shape with only very minor scratches in the plexiglass. I tried removing the scratches with a polish that is used on motorcycle plexiglass face protectors. It doesn't seem to do the job, so I'm looking for any other suggestions on the product I could use??

                              Thanks
