In Today's WSJ: "My Ride- The Most Coveted Classic Corvette"

Today's Wall Street Journal features an article with photos profiling AJ Baime's '63 coupe.

Parting quote: "When I am not driving it, I park it in my driveway, grab a chair and an iced tea, and just look at it. Some art you hang on your walls, and some you park in your driveway. All Corvettes from the 1960s are beautiful, but the 1963 Sting Ray is the Picasso.

Whenever I see a 63 Coupe, I still get the same feeling that I got the first time that I saw one in 1962 when I was in high school. "What a cool car!"
After all of these years the C2 Coupe has not lost it's Coolness.

Re: In Today's WSJ: "My Ride- The Most Coveted Classic Corvette"

Way back in 1968 my brother bought a used 1964 Corvette. I recall him saying to me "look at that car----that car will never get old-looking". He was 100% correct. However, I've since discovered that the same thing could be said of C3 Corvettes.

The 1964 Corvette he bought was an original FI. However, as was the case with many such cars in those days, it was very hard to keep running right. It so happened that I had a nearly new dual feed Holley carb and manifold. So, I told him that I would swap out the FI unit for the Holley carb and manifold. I'd give him the manifold and carb and do the work but the FI set-up would then become mine. He readily agreed as he didn't care, at all, about the FI unit; it really meant nothing to him. However, a year or so later when he sold the car, he gave, without my knowledge, MY FI unit to the guy he sold the car to. I never forgave him for that.

They have a weekly car-themed feature. Usually interesting.

              Joe,

Go ahead, give him a call. You probably have nieces and nephews you don't know about.

Just curious, what was the formula for making a 63 split window "The Most Coveted Classic Corvette"? Maybe in the authors opinion but certainly not the opinion of everyone! I think everyone who owns a classic Corvette thinks theirs is the most coveted. I know I do. Just my old two cents!

Probably explains why the WSJ is not your favorite car magazine, either. Seriously, the column is probably from an outside source like the public library, who the WSJ queried with a "What's a car?" question.

The title is written in first person, so it's the opinion of the car's owner. The article tells an interesting story about rescuing the car from a life of decay in a friend's barn, and how the '63 is his dream car.

I'm an engineer, but I heard journalists are trained to write controversial titles to gain attention. I guess it worked.
