    1972 big block AIR System

    While at Carlisle I was able to find a complete and all original AIR system for my '72. While I intend on contacting Bill Hodel to rebuild the pump, diverter valve and check valves (anyone have an idea of the cost on this? PM if appropriate) I have a question about the tubes. They are still in the exhaust manifolds, the nuts are rusted and the finish on the tubes is essentially gone but everything is solid and intact. Is it reasonable to try to remove the tubes from the manifolds? And if successful, is there a preferred method of re-finishing them?

    I'm new to smog systems so I'm sure I'll be asking more questions as I move forward. Any and all help is appreciated.

    I would contact Bill H. about restoring the tubes.
    One thing you need to assess is the integrity of the manifold trees themselves. They may shear or twist while trying to work the nuts free etc..

    I think Bill sells trees as well as restore/re plating parts.

    I was faced with a similar situation on my old 72 454, and I just did what I could to get them out and found a nice replacement set for the car.

      Thanks Bill, I'm soaking the nuts in kroil now. The tubes seem to be in OK shape, one side was "protected" by a valve cover leak but the tubes on the other are a bit pitted. I'll see what I have when it's all apart.
