1984 Wiper Blades

I am having trouble finding wiper blades that will work on my 84. Most are too tall to fit under the hood. Any suggestions?

Tom, if you have the wiper blade assemblies that worked you may be able to get some refills.

You could look for some NOS GM #12363800.

Also, GM #15184702 might work.

Thomas, My May 83 car had the original wiper arms. Car was stolen by my ex and is long gone. I still miss it. Any how I had to get refills. John D

Thanks to everyone who responded to my question. I would love to find some refills, are they still making them? I have not been successful finding them. I will check with the local Chevy dealer. Maybe I can stay out of the rain until then. Thanks again for all the suggestions.

I doubt you will have much success with your Chevrolet dealer. No one now days sells refills. They all want to change the entire holder. It is less trouble for the seller and more cost for the consumer and more profit for the seller. Refills are available on eBay but you will need to know the length and width (U, R, N = Universal, Regular, Narrow) in order to get the correct functional refill. How close those will be to your originals as far as judging is concerned is a whole other matter.

The original part number for the INSERTS ("refills") was GM #14069482. They were last available under GM #12399988 but it's now discontinued without supercession. I've always found that replacing only the inserts resulted in an unsatisfactory wiper operation. So, I've always chosen to replace the BLADE assembly. But, you can try replacing just the inserts if you can find them. I think you'll find the 12399988 on eBay.
