Will the one piece gasket pass Judging on a 57 .Will it require longer bolts. Will the paint stick to it .

    HI Dan,

I used a one piece gasket on my 70 sb. The stock bolts worked but I had to push pretty hard to get them started. Once started I am pretty sure enough thread grabbed to properly torque the bolts.

The orange paint did stick to the one piece gasket.

I do not know about judging.

    Kind Regards,

    Bill

No one piece oil pan gasket was available in '57. Cork side rails, rubber ends. If judge knows what he is doing he would probably catch difference. Watch size of end pieces for early pan that may not work correctly with a newer one piece gasket.

I used the one piece FelPro pan gasket on a big block. The original bolts on the ends would not bite at all. The side bolts had about one turn. I ended up replacing all of them.

I comes down to what you want: A good score or a good seal.

Over time, odds are that the paint will flake off. You might try a bit of sanding to rough it up on the edge, or a bit of primer made for plastic to see if it would help adhesion.

If the "blue gasket" was molded in orange the ease of detection would be more difficult.

Another issue is the composition head gaskets are so much thicker than the original steel shim ones and easy to tell by the gap between head and block deck is twice as big.

I just painted my blue one piece already installed on my '70. I cleaned it with enamel reducer, dried it and blew it off. I used an artist brush and taped a second brush on to have the length. Didn't take to long, covered most all, the paint stuck and has not peeled off (yet). I also used the original bolts; they are long enough to do the job.

Fel Pro one piece pan gaskets are available in bolth the thin older type and the thick newer type front seal thickness for small blocks. I've used them both with original bolts but never tried to hide that they were blue. I never had one judged. I think it will be hard to get any paint to stick to this silicone for a very long time. The smart thing to do would be to do as Leonard said above just before the show. If it flakes off later it's no big deal.

I agree that it would be great if they made these in Chevy orange.
