57 fan shroud repo fitment vs. original fitment

    Help!
How the heck are these things supposed to fit? Either the repress are wrong or something else is wrong. I got it in, but there are no holes to mount the hood poppers, and the sway bar cut-outs are too small to fit properly, about half of the welded in nuts line up with the holes, the metal strip where the upper hose goes on the rad would have to run right through the middle of the hose.
Any body got some oe pics of the shroud and how it mounts? The AIM is almost useless in this regard.
    thanks
    Mark.

Mark check the picture .This might help you.
Only the bottom Pop up bolt on each side is used on the shroud.

Oh, I see ok I couldn't get my shroud to drop that low without hitting the fan blade. I'm thinking either my motor mount brackets are too high or I have the wrong rubber mounts. I wonder if pass car rubber mounts are different than corvette?

Also for some reason when i turn all the way one direction, I think to the right, my centre steering arm hits my crank pulley which doesn't seem right. I checked and my mounts are definitely corvette not pass car.

          Hi Mark,

I bought a replacement fan shroud a few years ago, and I did have some trouble installing it, but not the problems you seem to be having. I had trouble with the center lower piece not being low enough to clear the fan on the bottom. In fact it came with a note attached to the piece saying to bend the center down to clear the fan. But what I bought several years ago and what you have now could be entirely different. I have no problem at all with it hitting the top of the blade.

I looked under mine and the center arm clears an 8" 327 balancer with at least an inch of clearance. Make sure your arm is not broken. If you jack on the arm it can break - you never do that. The arm should move side to side - not up and down. But it makes me think that your engine is sitting too high for some reason. You can also check the top of the engine to see if it is setting level in the car. Measure across the carburetor base if you can. Also see if the engine (air cleaner) will clear the hood okay. There is not much clearance even when everything is correct. You can use a piece of modeling clay for this.

Passenger car mounts are entirely different. Corvette up to 1962 (all C1s)are unique. Check the AIM, section 6, page 6. View A is a pretty good view of how the mount goes together.

            Thanks Dan,
My car is a bit of a mismatch of parts so I'm having a closer look at the rad support and mounting. The rad in my car is an original core 55 rad still running strong, but I think its the same as a 57 rad.
I think I figured it out my steering problem... my car is missing BOTH the steering box spacer AND the pitman arm stop bracket, allowing the arm to move closer to the centre of the car, and allowing it to turn sharper than it should. It hits right at the full turn to stop only.

Sounds like you have a later block side motor mounts unlike the 57 283 which has the motor mount bracket at the water pump?? If this is true check the side motor mounts to be sure they are not too high.

No they are the front water pump mount type, although my piece that goes on the water pump looks to be the later style and not the early as it should be
