    C1 fuel injection plenum temperature?

After a drive on a 90 degree day, what should the temperature on the top of the plenum be?
Assuming that the thermostat housing is 185 deg. and the exhaust manifolds are 550 degrees.
If anybody is driving their fuel injected C1 today, I would appreciate it if they would shoot their
plenum with an IFR gun immediately after driving. It would also be interesting to know what fuel
    that they are using.

    Thanks, Dave Gray

Re: C1 fuel injection plenum temperature?

Hey David, I'll take my 59 down the road shortly and check it for you. It's not expected to reach 90* here in my part of eastern NC until around 4PM though. I use 93 non ethanol in my fuelie with a 160* thermostat. You might want to switch to the 160 to see if that helps. As a side note, I have the full length intake base to plenum gasket installed along with heat shield material under the gasket (except at the runners, of course). I also individually wrapped each line of the spider, along with the fuel filter and fuel line from pump to FI unit. For days above 90*, when I'm sitting at intersections, I have a fan installed that can pull fresh air from the grill area and blow it underneath both sides of the plenum for additional cooling. this also works great for the quick trips inside the store, so you don't have a restart issue when you return. What year and HP vette have you?

I am working on a 57 with none of the enhancement/modifications that you have added.

Re: C1 fuel injection plenum temperature?

David, just got back in. Outside temp was in the neighborhood of 90* . The engine temp was 160-165*. The temp measured approx. 150* near the top of the plenum on the driver's side and 154* on the passenger side. The fuel meter was 160* and the top of the plenum was in the 136-140* range. My FI unit is the style with the ribbed top (7250). I held the IR gun approx. 4-5 inches off the plenum when taking readings. I did not use the cooling fan while driving, as it was not needed today. I hope this helps in some manner. Maybe someone else will chime in for you. Good luck on your project. Al

          David,

Your FI has the "full" gasket. Put some Hushmat or some other type of "thin" hi heat insulation material on the bottom side of the gasket.

I guess I am getting old or already old as no way would I want to run a midyear coupe with FI in the hot weather. Since Futo gave me his job as NCRS fuel guy (haven't forgiven him yet). I get a lot of NCRS calls and really don't mind that much.
Anyhow here's a good one for you and then back to work.
Not going to give you the year of Corvette with FI.
Guy called recently and said he has a problem with his fuel car. He said it was in the high 90's out. When he stopped the car to run in the store he had a horrible time starting it when he came out 10 minutes later. Now wanting to be profession and not give a smart answer I had to first catch my breath and remove my pen stuck in the drywall. Then I proceeded to tell him why he was having issues. True story.

See a lot of you at the Pittsburgh Tri-State Chapter regional next week in Altoona, PA. Holler if you need anything and one of our hard working members will help you. We have at least 50 cars to judge and a bunch of PVs, Etc.
And JD is getting his Master Judging hat. Yeahhh
