    What the heck!!!

    Ok this little GO Kart is getting the best of me. How in the world is oil in the fuel pump.. ? Were is it coming from? I know the block!! But HOW and WHY. Anyone has ever seen this. This is like.. my my my..NOW WHAT!

    Fuel pump also has a vacuum pump on the lower side. Vacuum lines often have a bit of oil in them. Could be related to the vacuum side.

      Thanks Tony. This is alot of oil. At first I thought it was the fuel tank sludge.. But its oil. I guess I have to track and trace.

        Al,
        Not familiar with your pump, but I removed a fuel pump on something else and it was leaking past the diaphragm. It also had 3 diaphragms
        instead of 2.

          Ok. 2 lines...1st vacuum line to the manifold 2nd to the vacuum advance. Neither lines are picking up oil. They are dry at the point of termination.

          Maybe the pump is crack in the back drawing oils. I just don't know.

            It's either a failed seal or a crack in the casting between the pump lever and housing. With that much oil I would guess its going to be a crack (or hole) in the casting between the pump lever housing and the pump diaphragm. That's the only way I can think that much oil would enter the diaphragm and fuel bowl area.

              Hope it's not a crack as Erick said may be possible. My bet is is a seal or diaphragm unless you were working in that area. Usually things not subjected to high heat do not crack. Over tightening can do it also, but hopefully the pumping action didn't stress the metal and crack it. My bet is it needs a rebuild.
              And as much as some people dislike me comparing cars to airplanes. The 3rd diaphragm on the aircraft manual fuel pump is to prevent the loss of engine oil thru the fuel pump. If the fuel pump fails there is a electric boost pump that gets you to a safe place and the third diaphragm prevents the loss of engine oil. So keep the car on the ground!!

                Dom... interesting. The car is jacked in the front. . But that wouldn't cause oil to flow into the pump, would it? But the bet is its cracked lucky I has a spare pump. I'll try to replace.

                  Right, the oil is in the pan and can't flow up to the pump. I would say the engine has to be running to flood the oil into the pump. After that (engine off) the oil can leak out of the pump.
                  I would put money on a good rebuild solving the problem. The AC fuel pump which looks like the auto pump is about 475.00. Can't find rebuild parts, mainly diaphragms. All seems to have gone to R&R,( remove and replace) or buy new! Gone are the good old days when you went to the auto parts and bought parts or a kit.
                  I spend a bunch of time hunting old stock A6 compressor parts. They all want us to buy a replacement. What about the guy that has every thing original on his car and wants to keep the#s?
                  Those diaphragms don't last for ever. Interesting about the vacuum part, I would like to know more about that. Did the pump have 2 functions? One for fuel and one for vacuum? If so, vacuum sucks and a leak to the oil system would suck a bunch of oil.

                        Hey Dom..I'm about to pull it off and check out what's going on I think this thing maybe crack but when I check the vacuum line I didn't see any oil so I don't have any other idea how the oil would have got in to the pump. Because the car never started it was just turning over and it couldn't get a good mixture of fuel to fire up the car it is getting spark but it just wouldn't catch.
