Carpet Backing

Can someone please answer this. How did the carpet come from the factory in a 66 corvette conv, with or without backing? Should any jute or any sound deadener be layed under the carpet to be correct for judging? I'm getting mixed answers on this subject, it's driving me crazy. I plan on getting the car judged in the near future. I would appreciate the forum's input.

There should be a diecut carpet "underlayment" made of a black surface "rubber"(?) and jute. This is about 3/8" thick and is the reason there is a spacer on the floor under the accelerator peddle pad. This underlayment is thruout the interior floor area and on the fender wells. Refer to your AIM. It is shown as "dotted" line pieces. See attached photo.....
