PVC) Crankcase Vent Gromet 1963 340HP

    Everyone;

I just received my replacement / reproduction in the mail today.
The original one is like a hunk of carbon i.e. as hard as a rock.
However it is in the engine and I will likely leave it there.
Pictured are two what I believe are originals.
I have a lot of confidence the one still installed in the block that itis the way it came in Dec 1962.
You can see the edge of the sleeve in the block on the orange one.
The other one is a unidentified bushing I had lying around.

Below is a picture of the reproduction grommet.
In the included instructions it mentioned if you have a sleeve in the block to remove it and use the bushing sans the sleeve.

Rich early and late 63 breather bushings where different. I think the venders sell the later ones.

      Ed
      Thanks for the input.

In the vendors catalog the bushing was not identified as which application it was for early or late.
I realize GM dropped the early bushing and only sold the later one after a couple years.
The well informed might assume it was the later style.
If it was an exact match I might have changed it out.
The replacement has the same part number as the large large style one but some of the other information on the bushing didn't seem to not be applicable. Would the bushing been installed before painting of the block took place?

Rich, I removed the older style and installed the newer design, which requires removing the metal plug from block, if you remove the rubber you'll see how the design for the earlier cars is.my car was a March car but a Jan.cast block.

Hi Richard, I may be misinformed by I have been under the impression that the slevve and hard bakelite material (or hard rubber) was used in the 63 Corvette up to around May. Then the typical rubber grommet was used without the sleeve.

I suggest you leave yours alone and reuse it.
My Feb 19th engine has the sleeve assembly. GM and on the opposite side of the hard rubber it has JR 52 or it may be just a fancy R 52.
Millions of Chevy engines used the sleeve assembly. John D

Rich, for judging I really do not believe that many judges even look at the gromet.
