I am lusting for a 2013 427 roadster. Does anyone know if these engines had oil consumption problems; and if they did, do I look for one with a warrantee repair or go with one that has not had any issues?

Re: 2013 427 limited edition model
The 427/505 is a great motor. Makes terrific power between 4,000 and 7,000 RPM's. I had a C6 Z with the 427 and had no issues whatsoever. However, there is a well known issue with the heads. It wasn't so much an oil burning issue. Some motors were dropping valves. GM has acknowledged a limited range of 427's had valve guides that were out of spec, some resulted in catastrophic failures. Many are buying new heads or having the factory heads re-worked. Extended warranty would be your friend. If I were buying a C6 with a 427 I would inquire of the seller if the heads have been done.- Top

Re: 2013 427 limited edition model
When I built the engine for my 427 at the performance build center in Wixom, MI, I asked a number of people about this problem as I was very concerned. The feedback I got was that this issue was identified and corrected at the supplier. I don't know when they believed the problem was solved but it was before I built mine in October 2012. The heads are supplied to GM fully assembled so a valve guide issue wouldn't easily be detected in the build center. I have had no issues with mine, but it only has 1500 miles on it.

Lots of issues with that engine - http://www.leftlanenews.com/corvette...ems-89973.html
I can't find a link to it but I remember reading about a connecting rod clearance issue, besides the well known valve issue, that caused the engine to grenade.- Top

I guess no one told my 2008 LS7 about any of these problems. 85K miles and it runs like a scalded ape.
The only issue I have had was a Catalytic Efficiency code for which there was a TSB. A free re-flash of the computer and I was done. It took all of 15 minutes at the local Chevrolet dealer.Terry- Top
