Looking for a body and paint shop in Northern California

I have a door that is close to the body on the door handle side of the door and I am being told it needs to be shaved by a 1/16 to 1/8 inch to make it fit better. It is not touching the body but very close. Has anyone heard of this as a procedure to fix a similar issue?

Assuming this is the right approach, I need a good body and paint shop to match the existing paint in Northern California.

    Thank you.

    John,

Regarding a painter, it depends on what you mean by Northern CA. Here's someone in the greater Bay Area who has done NCRS and Bloomington Gold-quality paint and restoration:

    Chris Springer
    Springer Auto Restoration
    25 Ocean View Road
    Los Gatos, CA 95033

I used Auto Perfectionist, in Fairfield, the owner George is a great guy too work with. He currently has a members car in his shop.

Perrigo's in Santa Cruz has done good work for an NCRS member on several of his cars that have had frame off restorations.
I have owned a 1966 since 1967. I notice that the rear of the doors has gotten closer to the body as time goes on. I assumed it is due to old body mounting rubber. Before shaving the door, body mounting might be considered.

I'm old enough to remember "I'll paint any car for $19.95!" Any paint or body prep beyond scuffing the old surface was extra.

                  John,

Let us know your experience if you wind up working with someone. I live near San Jose and I might need someone's restoration services at some point in time.

                    John,
Are you looking for a show, or a driver paint job? I recently had my 63 roadster painted and the paint job is excellent.
                    - I removed all of the chrome, moldings, emblems door handles. etc.
                    - the shop then stripped the car to bare fiberglass including the door jambs and hood under side edges.
                    - They then gel coated it, several coats of primer, then painted it with single stage ultrathane with clear mixed in the final color coat.
                    - The color is code 923 riverside red and I think the match is great with right amount of orange in it.
                    - Yes there is some build up of paint here and there on some of the edges.
                    - I know from experience that if I dulled the door jambs I would lose very few points.
                    - The whole job took less than 2 weeks.
The paint shop is Miracle Auto Paint in Pleasanton CA and I paid $5,500. They do a lot of corvettes and other classic cars. If you have any interest call Jeff Jacobson 925-485-9900 Most of the other quotes I got were in the $15 to $20 thousand range even though I said the car is a driver.

The car is a multiple TF car and Bloomington Gold winner. I am looking to keep it as close to a TF car as possible.

Jeff, excellent info. I had multiple quotes over 20k and they didn't care that I wanted driver quality. This was a little unnerving especially when I'll be driving on the worst highways in the country.
Does Miracle do fiberglass repairs as well?
