The 1963 Corvette AIM in Sect. 6, Sheet A4.00 lists the nut as GM# 9411655 which is the type NA lock nut. The nut # 3816622 nut is listed for models with A.C. as shown in C60, 5.00 and I ASSUME that nut # 3816622 is PROBABLY type N.

I also ASSUME that both the type NA nut and the type N nut were used on the assembly line for use on the 3825460 bracket and the 3825461 bracket (w/A.C.).

Nut # 9413534 is type N but only appears in the Chevrolet parts catalogs as a service part and does NOT appear in the 1963 AIM.

Ok, after listening to you experts I decided took remove my alternator to see why there was no room for any washer between the sleeve and alternator. I did not realize that the sleeve actually protrudes into and through the hole in the bracket making it somewhat adjustable. Seems like a dumb way to do it. Then, when the washer goes on between the nut and sleeve there remains a gap between the washer and bracket. Is this correct? Is this why the AIM shows the sleeve installation outside the bracket. Please ignore my stupidity.

          Perry,

Yes, there will be a gap between the outside washer and bracket when tightened. The AIM picture simply shows the order of installation, if you look closely the inside washer is also shown by the lower alternator through hole.

          Nothing stupid asking a question.
