1964 327/365 Intake manifold

A friend of mine just rebuilt his 64 327/365, he has bought the correct 3844461 Aluminum intake manifold, but there is no hole in the front of the manifold for the heater hose, According to my Chevy V-8 number book, this is correct for 327/365. Can anyone tell why there is no tapped hole?

I've never seen a 3844461 without the fittings for the heater hose nipple and the temp sender. Is there a boss for the heater hose fitting? If so, it could be drilled and tapped.

I don't understand this, at all. The boss for the heater hose fitting is part of the 3844461 casting. How one can have a 3844461 casting without the boss is beyond me. As a matter of fact, virtually all Chevrolet small block intake manifolds have provisions for the heater hose fitting. Some do not have provisions for a tamp sender.

Taking a closer look, someone did weld the heater hose inlet shut, not sure why.

Did they also "weld" up the inlet/outlet for the 90 degree bypass that goes to the top of the water pump? Sounds like a helluva buy......
