Folks: Hope that all goes well. I need some guidance. Since I have owned this vehicle the brakes have worked super. However, after a week of sitting, her brakes always sqeeked a little bit until the vehicle got warm. However, the last two times that I have taken her out; while the brakes seem to work OK, they have recently "honked and shuttered" a bit when I applied the brakes. This is a new sound and feel and it has me a bit concerned. Any guidance would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks. Best regards, Ned

Re: 1966 L79, Honking Nosie and Slight Vibration from Brakes
Happened to me just in the past couple of months. I too had a moaning sound and a vibration that sounded like it was sheet metal. The only sheet metal is the stone shield. I looked up when I changed the pads and it was 16 years ago. (Time flies when you're having fun) I replaced all pads with some NAPA pads and flushed the braking system with some new dot3. No more vibrations, moans or horrible squealing. My '66 stops straight. I might add that the rotors were perfect with no gouges or the like.
Good luck.....Frank

The pads are probably "glazed", and there are three things you can do.
1. Find a safe road where you can make half a dozen maximum g decelerations from at least 50 MPH down to about 10 MPH in quick succession.
2. Remove the pads and scruff them with course grit paper, like 60-80.
3. If the above two don't fix the problem install new pads.
