    1971 Trim Rings/Rocker Moldings

The trim rings on my LT1 got dinged for being over polished in San Antonio last week. Someone told me that Jim Miller from California could dull them up to the correct sheen. There are several Jim Millers on the membership list, however none of them are from California. Does anyone have his contact info? Or, does anyone know of a good technique for taking the sheen down. Seems like one could one use a dulling (coarser) compound and accomplish this.

Please ignore the rocker molding wording in the title. That is another question for later!

I was under the impression it was Rick Miller.

I was under the impression that Rick did not redo them with the flash chrome originally installed. You may want to verify with him exactly what procedure he uses.

I will definitely visit with him. These are stainless steel and should be able to be polished up or down. Mine were judged to be over polished, so I'm thinking I could wet sand them and start with 3000 grit? I will try this out with a reproduction ring first to make sure I don't mess it up. Your thoughts? By the way I appreciate the level of judging you did on my interior. We will fix those items and hopefully gain some points next time out. I'm thinking about doing a PV on the car. We need to gain about 90 points to hit the magic 97%. Lost 4 points on the trim rings . . . should be able to get these back if I can get just a little duller sheen. Thanks Patrick

They are stainless steel that is then flash chromed to give it the correct look.
If you polish them, you'll polish off the chrome and have "yellow" looking trim rings. So, polishing may be completely the wrong idea.

I did not look at them close enough to comment any further, but I hope that helps.

Rick says he can give them the "factory" look for a nominal fee. Thanks Patrick
