    A6 Compressor Code

The code on my car's A6 compressor is 501102. The printing is clear.

The JG says the code format is MMDDYS, where S=shift.

    How is this interpreted?

Can you post a picture of the label? If you are correctly reading the line that says "CODE" there was/is a mistake someplace.

The code the judging guide refers to is on the foil label, not the end plate of the compressor.

If this is on a 1970 Corvette, and May 11 1970 works for the date I would be willing to believe someone made a typo. We are so used to automated or computerized processes today, we tend to forget that humans did this king of mind numbing work years ago. I would also do some checking to be sure the Model number is appropriate for the Corvette application in question. An A6 is an A6 (well almost. Yes, I know pulley sizes and super-heat switch, and end plate dates, etc.) and over the years the whole compressor could have been switched, but the weird date still stands.

If that typo supposition doesn't work we have to fall back to "The benefit of the doubt goes to the owner/car." This is nothing to get worked up about. Have another cold beverage and move on.

Mark, I think Terry maybe right, it appears like one digit to many. the label I believe in your pic appears to be maybe a later S/R. I think the label should be green on the bottom. yours appears to be all black. Harry's pic of the end plate may show what the date may be, but is blocked by the manifold fitting. Does the 5th month match the production for your car? 5-01 1970, 5-11-70 ?

                  Thanks guys.

The label does has a green warning section at the bottom; the close up photo doesn't show it.

It's a June 1970 car, so a May 11, 1970 compressor makes sense. Maybe 50 was punched instead of 05?

Not a big deal for me. I mostly wondered if I didn't understand the date format.

Agree, the label w/ green a bottom is correct, that's good.

My 1970 original owner Corvette 350/300 turbo 400 still has the original compressor. Its Model # is 5910742 and R12 charge is 3.25. Cannot make out out all the Code numbers in the garage with flashlight. Will try in the sunlight another day.
                      Green label on compressor also.

Same 501102 code on a July 1970 built car. Curious that.

                          Mark,
I think someone transposed the first 2 numbers and it should read 05 instead of 50. O5 is May so it might be May 11, 1970, shift 2. 051102. Also check that out on a 1970 calendar and make sure May 11, 1970 was not a Sunday or holiday. I do believe they worked some Sundays as there were shift # 3 on some foils.
