Air Cleaner Element - how to oil?

I got a deduct at a Chapter meet on the air cleaner element of my 66. The guide says '...filters had an oil-wetted paper, and as a result the paper had a slightly yellow-brown color'.

Anyone got a good technique to get the correct oil wetted appearance?

    Thanks,

    Thanks,
The original paper used for oil wetted filter elements is very different than the resin impregnated paper used in modern filter elements. Unfortunately it is not just a matter of adding oil to a modern element. I don't think the rosin impregnated paper will absorb any significant amount of oil, but you can try. If you have an old can of Pennsylvania oil that has paraffin in it you could try pouring some on and see if it soaks in.

Don, since most of the repro engine air filters have a configuration issue, wetting the paper will still result in a deduct. if it is just piece of mind for yourself try using a fine mist spray bottle.

Like Ed said, the configuration of the repro filters are not even close to originals, so i assume you got a deduct for other items on the replacement filter in addition to the oil wetted paper element. Meaning a deduct is still coming IMO regardless. I would focus more on other items to tend to that may be more readily "fixable" and yield more of a result points wise for you. Just my two cents. Don here are a couple of pic. s one is a oiled element and the other shows a embossed filter number, this is just a pic not the correct filter for your car. there are other details not shown here such as the wire screen mesh.
