half shaft bolts pn 3843384

This thread pertains to the bolts that secure the half shaft to the spindle support for a '64 Corvette.

The correct grade 8 bolt for this application is part # 3843384. Eight are required (4 per side), I have four correct. I ordered a set from LIC, what I got is not the same as the original. See the picture. Correct bolt with an "O" in the head is on the left, the LIC bolt is on the right, it has a line through the "O" and the spokes for the grade 8 indicator are not the same.

Question(s). Does anyone know if any vendors sell the correct bolts or, does anyone have four, used or new, bolts (pn 3843384) that they do not need and would consider selling? If the answer to the second part of the question is a yes, please send me a PM.

I know the finish on the correct bolt in the pic is not correct, it will be cleaned & refinished in black phosphorous.

Two ebay sellers who regularly post on this DB have e-bay IDs of originalcorvette and Johnmeissinger. Both sell used C2 hardware, sometimes restored, mostly not. I've purchased from both sellers a number of times and have been happy with the items I've purchased. Both describe their items accurately. Just make sure to look at the auction photos carefully to assess the quality of unrestored bolts and nuts, e.g., rounded corners from wrench slips, pitting from rust, etc.

Does the reproduction bolt have the shoulder under the head, that's very important regarding the relationship of the bolt to driveshaft flange.

You want original bolts?? Call Richard Fortier..........former owner of Paragon..........advertises in the NCRS Driveline. Hw will have any bolt you need.

Tim, there is no shoulder under the repro bolt or the assumed original bolt. It is just a run of the mill grade 8 hex head, the issue is the head marking. The bolt I am looking for was used for a number of applications on mid years as well as other Chevrolet models (Chevelle for one) but the bolt has been out of production for a very long time. Like many parts, repros are not even close to the originals, as you can see from the pic. This is the bolt that is secured with the French locks on the half shaft - at the point it is fastened to the trailing arm support bracket.

If you did not locate the bolts through Richard Fortier I have many sets of Originals. Thanks and Gary, thanks for the recommendation.
