I am back to work on my 69 L71 that you guys helped me trouble shoot my ignition problem that then lead to the rebuild of the distributor, and installing a new wiring harness along with several other odds and ends. So this is an interesting car. It's a CA car with the original engine, smog, non-original M-22 and original rear end. Car came with a POP, original window sticker, original black CA tags, and original CA paper license plate from 69 along with other odds and ends. Oh and the other neat thing is that the tank sticker is still on the tank. Now the not so neat thing. The original owner's family in the Sacramento area owned a string of NAPA stores, and they still do today...as a side note. Based on my research of the car, the original owner decided it would be a good idea to put GM ac on an L-71. When I got the car the compressor was not on the car, none of the heat/ac defrost etc worked. You could hear a little vacuum action when I rotated the wheel but it was a mess to say lightly. I am now undertaking the removal of the ac system and re-installing the factory heater/defroster assembly and the blower motor assembly. The passenger compartment of the car, console, gauge cluster, radio is disassembled. The blower motor assembly is loose but not removed yet. This morning while laying in bed I thought....oh man what if the firewall was cut to install the ac system?? So my question is this, to install the ac system in a 69 would one remove the non ac components and install the ac system, or is there firewall cutting that would need to be done. I obviously want to get the ac equipment removed and just bolt up the non ac system with out firewall repair.
