If Mr. Chestnut is correct about his negotiations with Mike for "several months" and such were done on behalf of NCRS, perhaps the donation to Kettering was a conscious decision by Mike for NCRS to NOT have the material. I would hope such was not the case, but I am aware of the possibility. If there is written confirmation that this was Mike's wish, we can end this speculation now. If the material ended up with Mr Kayser via some other means, NCRS should pursue its acquisition, especially in view of Kettering's less-than-enthusiastic treatment of the files.

      Loren,

Not aware that any information by Mike Hunt might end up in some kind of legal action.

We are not here to litigate but to engage in the hobby of restoring Corvettes.

This is the Technical Discussion portion of the web site and should be reserved for that action only.

        Mr. Lundberg,

I chatted with Mike once a year since I met him in 1980. Mike Hunt had agreed for NCRS and NCM to have his 56-7 collection. However, nothing was written down. Mike had mentioned this to his friend Ruth. However, Ruth had no legal standing. The family wanted to vacate the house ASAP. The decision was made by the family to give Mike Hunt's 56-7 collection to Kettering. There was no collusion against NCRS and NCM. End of Story.

Re: Mike Hunt 1956 1957 Database

Maybe I can add some details. Ruth called me shortly after the untimely death of Mike. My name was at the top of his Rollodex at the time; so that is probably why I received the call. Ruth wanted me to pick up the many boxes of Mike's research. She also asked me if I was interested in Mike's 57 car. Unfortunately, I was working at that time; and my schedule did not permit me to make that trip. I suggested that she contact Mr. Kayser for the transfer of this information. I also suggested other names for Mike's items. Mike made no conscious effort to donate the material to Kettering. I was in contact with Mike several times the weeks and months before talking to him about his boat project and his other interests. I have a few things that I received from Mike, like an original 54 Nomad blueprint, an original 57 AIM, etc. Mike did share conversations about not wanting some items to go to the National Corvette Museum. I did not understand that and he did not give me the reasons why he felt that way. I miss his close friendship.

I'm glad this has reopened discussion regarding Mike's data, and interesting it is.

Mark, that's quite a recap of that time. I understand how you feel about losing a close friend too. It's not easy.

Re: Mike Hunt 1956 1957 Database

I've been somewhat inundated with helpful PM's and emails over this. A Fellow Member(asked to remain anonymous) took all of the files I posted and scanned them and created keyboard searchable PDF's. When you open a file, type CTRL F and enter your search string in the box and click the arrow(s).

He did say that the tool to do this conversion into searchable text relies on the quality of the input file, so some of the search results may be unpredictable. Use caution looking for strings of letters and numbers when using the CTRL F search tool within the Adobe Reader.

He also compressed that large file (Mike Hunt RP56-7_56-7 Production Dates) that exceeded our 2.86 MB upload filesize, also now attached.

Note that I left his "OCR" suffix(searchable files) in place to differentiate the file names from the non-searchable files.

A special Thank You to you, Mr. Helpful to remain Anonymous. You know who you are!!!

Re: Mike Hunt 1956 1957 Database

I started this discussion (again) with a request to NCRS last September. NCRS has an Archive Director. I hope that this issue is being worked. But it appears that we are in a\ vacuum on knowledge of / progress in this effort.

I don't think it is a good idea to have multiple people contact Kettering about this, but maybe it is time to at least request a quote from them (as a private individual) for transferring the data to a currently readable (like PC readable) material.

At a minimum, we would need to get the data from the Apple IIE hard drive, all of the 5 1/4 inch floppy discs, plus any external storage devices (if there are any).

Kettering told me they currently have no way to read that data. I know that they (their computer science department) can put something together for the right amount of money. I could put something together as well if I had the actual drives.

Time is getting away from us.

On a related topic, here is an index that I put together of Mike Hunt's RPO 1956-1957 articles that were published in Vette Vues magazine. If you have the old magazines (which I do), this might help you find something...

Thank you all. This has giving me thought on ''what to do with my stuff''. I have a large hard drive full of all my Corvette research and files, especially on 53-67 Corvette race cars. Rich, you and I need at visit at San Antonio. Perhaps this subject can be discussed at the National Board Meeting next Friday July 14.

I am not the ''Lone Ranger'' with files that NCRS should have for future research projects. Loren and others have great files also.
