'67 Firestone Redlines vs Goodyear Redlines in judging

In judging '67 reproduction tires which tires judges the best, the Firestones redlines or the Goodyear Redlines. The score sheet is 30/30 for tires.

    Gary
Just come off the hip and buy some original Firestone red stripe Super Sports. They will will only set you back 35G and your worries will be over:-))
The 67 guys will chime in but, any repop tire will result in a deduct. The Goodyears might result in a more significant hit.

I lost 3 points for DOT marking on my reproduction Goodyear tires.

Its tough to justify those original redline tires for '67 judging but if you had a garage full of them, they would all sell.

At 35K it works out to $10,000 per point, ouch. They sure do look nice, though.

Back around 2007 when I bought reproduction redlines for my '67, I think the choices were Goodyear from Kelsey Tire or Firestone from Coker. At the time, there was a judging problem with the Cokers, but I think that has been fixed now. I bought the Goodyears from Kelsey Tire and got full judging points except the 3-point DOT deduction at multiple judging events including the NCRS National.

Unless something has changed since then, I'd recommend the Kelsey Goodyear redlines.

As Mark said, either tire will result in a slight deduct. If points per dollar is your thing then having originals does not make sense. If originality is most important to you then look for originals. Anyone with knowledge can tell the difference between the two from 50 feet away.
