    67 Universal joint Spicer part #' SPICER 1350 SERIES PART # 5-799X & # 5-789X

Members, I wanted to double check with you------------for my 67

I see online the SPICER 1350 SERIES PART # 5-799X as used for the 1/2 shafts

    AND

1310 SERIES PART # 5-785X for the drive shafts.

Tricky to find as these were discontinued a few yrs ago, but they are still out there.

Both are solid w/No zerk fittings. Do you agree that these are as close in appearance & quality as I'm going to find to the originals?

They look as right as I'm going to get---------

    Thanks
    Fred

    Hi Fred,
Those will not look correct in appearance but will be stronger, in my opinion, than originals. The old 5-799x was a good joint but had the black caps and those were bad. They were brittle and often snapped installing or sometimes just separating the caps from the cross. The new ones have white caps that are 100% better. The fact you can't find the 5-799's shouldn't be a concern, go with the new ones, 5-1350x for the 1/2 shafts and 5-1310x for the DS. You shouldn't have any issue finding them, they're about $28-32 each.

I just did a search and Jegs has them for $22 better pricing then I get!

Thanks Gary, I appreciate the advice about the black VS white caps---THANK YOU !! Only thing is the originals did have the Black gasket/Seal as it were VS these white one's ----I suppose I could be creative with a black permanent magic marker if I wanted to, But if you would have a look at these that came up on this e-bay search I did-----http://www.actionmachineinc.com/5-1350Xu-joint.aspx

These DO have the black seals and have the part # you mentioned---?? Thoughts----

        Fred,
I haven't seen the old black caps joints sold in several years now. That could just be an old picture or they are unloading old stock. The black caps were so bad I had to stock up on spares to have on hand since many broke removing the bearing caps. If I recall the white and black caps are not interchangeable either. I don't know if I kept the black caps I had or tossed them. I never had one white cap break- yet. My advice, if you're going to drive the car use the new spicers and be done with it. Both joints were larger then the originals anyway so they would still look different then original. Me, I prefer stronger or better from a part or procedure over correctness, ie all my posi's do not use springs, I use the new spicers, etc.
