    Welch plug weeping on 63 FI unit

    Well the car is running good now so thank you John and Jim along with the others out here who provided comments on my other two questions over the past year. Took the car yesterday for a spin and notice that the Welch plug is weeping gas....reading information out here related to a similiar experience another member had, I see this is a big NoNo with potential loss of car as an end result is it falls out.

    After researching the forum, I see one of the approaches is to remove the unit and fuel meter and epoxy the inside of the fuel meter where the plug is....

    My question...what type of epoxy is best...JB Weld? Appreciate any recommendations..

    You are right to be concerned. I suggest NOT starting the engine until you fix the weeping. If that plug comes out, there will be a large stream of fuel shooting out and hitting the exhaust manifold. You can guess the rest.

    I've used JB Weld behind the plug. I also peen over the lip of the hole after the plug is in place; doing so helps hold it in.

      I have tried JB weld but found out it doesn't compare to what I am using.
      Try PC 7. Two part epoxy. Use a heat gun (not a hair dryer) when mixing it. It takes a day or so to harden and then it's like steel.

      Fixing a leaking plug on the side of the fuel bowl is not easy fix if you want to do it the right way. Half fast way would be to put epoxy on the out of the bore. Super ugly and not orginal.

      Here's how I to the job. Fuel bowl is off the injection and on the workbench. I drill a hole in the center of the plug. Then I use a 10/32 tap. Then my slide hammer pulls it out.
      I mix up the PC 7 until it's like butter. I put in on the INSIDE of the bore. Then I place a new welch plug in the hole. Next step is very important. I use a flat punch that is almost the diameter of the plug. You want to spread the plug. Not just dent it.
      With the fuel bowl on it's side and no brackets on it I hit the plug about 3 times with my ballpeen hammer. Dont' worry about making it pretty. The life of your car and maybe you depends on you doing the job right.
      I wipe off the excess with q-tips. Then I let the part set up for a day or so before using it. Never had one leak that way. My way looks original.
      PC- 7 available in hardware stores. Eastwood sells it also. Buy the smallest container possible as the shelve life is about two years max. John
