    C2 Alternator rear bearing

I have two what I believe are NOS rear alternator bearings. One is an INA and the other Torrington. I know from research on this forum that the original bearings were Torrington, and the bearing I removed for the rear case half has Torrington USA DBPT45719 stamped on it.

As you can see from the two pictures, the NOS INA bearing has INA USA and what I assume is the iNA part number stamped on it.

The NOS Torrington bearing has Torrington and some other letters stamped on it, but no USA or part number.

Since the originals were Torrington, should I use the Torrington bearing since the originals were Torrington even though it does not have all the other info stamped on it?

I also understand that the INA will pass judging without any deduct.

    Thanks,

Are the bearings actually checked for numbers when your 1966 is being judged?

Yes, at least on the recent chapter meeting where my car was judged. I had rebuild the alternator and used a generic rebuild kit. The rear bearing and capacitor both had unmarked bottoms. I used a correct capacitor, but the plain rear bearing. I have my car registered for the Regional in PA in August so I'm planning to swap out this bearing.

I suspect most knowledgeable mechanical judges would see the incorrect bearing. I'm just trying to determine which is best for judging. I read in another thread that the INA would be OK, but since I have this Torrington bearing, I would use it if it will also judge OK.

Torrington holds the patent on that needle bearing design. INA was licensed to produce them.

INA was not in production of that bearing design at the time of original build.

You should only find Torrington needle bearings as correct for the 60's alternator.

Many rebuilders used the lesser priced INA bearing.

As I recall the roller sizes are different.
