John I hope you can make this big enough to read. I have not had to try this method, it's something I found and down loaded just in case I would ever need it.

Thanks all for suggestions. Guess what I will be doing for Father's Day.

            John------

After you get it open you will probably find one of two things caused it. Either the barrel retainer came loose and off or the end of the hood release cable broke off. The latter often occurs because the "cable" on most C3's is actually a mono-filament wire. This work hardens over time and breaks. I recommend replacing it with the later C3 cable and handle assembly. This uses a STRANDED cable that is much more flexible and strong. It will not work harden and break and it's smoother operating. This type assembly was after a certain time also GM SERVICE for all C3. In my opinion, it's the only way to go. In this case, originality be damned. The GM assembly which included the underdash bracket is discontinued. However, I believe it's available from Corvette vendors.

A tip: if you have to purchase the cable assembly with bracket and plastic cable shield, remove the cable and handle assembly and insert it through the existing bracket and metal cable shield. This way, it's a snap to install and you maintain the original bracket and metal shield. Also, use TWO retainers on the end of the cable.
