Chevrolet started having back up lights as an option as early as 1954 as far as I can tell. Am I correct that no C1 was available with such an option. Kind of strange the most expensive Chevrolet did not even offer courtesy lights as standard until till 1961.What was Chevrolet thinking ? Corvettes were almost double the price of a base level full size Chevrolet in early 1950s. Did they really think a dollar or two more would of made that much difference. Even sun shades were an options until 61. At that stage Fords two seater had seats that moved electrically and steering wheels that moved to different positions. Why were the early Corvettes so stripped down ?

Re: C1 and Back up lights
Walter,
You are correct, no solid axles had back up lights (although I did look at a '57 Corvette about 10 years ago that someone had installed a set). I know they were offered in '64 and assume that '63 also had them available. I have no idea why, we can only speculate. Don H.- Top
